RICHARD O’BRIEN, MD FACEP

 

Dr. Richard O’Brien is currently an Emergency Physician at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, PA and Clinical Instructor in the Department of Medicine at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia.  He has also served as National Faculty for the American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support Program.  He is an official spokesperson for the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), and a Past President of the Pennsylvania Chapter of ACEP.

 

Dr. O’Brien has conducted a great deal of original research that has been published in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine, and has contributed to publications such as Patient Management, Health Management Technology, Annals of Emergency Medicine, and the Journal of Emergency Medicine.  Furthermore, Dr. O’Brien has contributed to major consumer media outlets such as Family Circle, ABCNews.com and Bottom Line/Personal.  He has been quoted in such publications as USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, US News & World Report, Men’s Health, Redbook and Good Housekeeping.

 

Dr. O’Brien is a long-time radio broadcaster and was the host of For Your Good Health, broadcast daily in Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania for over a decade.  He also is author of the statewide Pennsylvania ACEP Public Service Radio Network.  Dr. O’Brien regularly appears as a guest on public affairs, news and public service radio broadcasts, including state, local and national programs.

 

Dr. O’Brien has received numerous awards and recognitions, including the Physician’s Recognition Award for Continuing Medical Education from the American Medical Association and ACEP, the M.D. Future of Health Technology Award, and the Pennsylvania ACEP Meritorious Service Award.

 

Dr. O’Brien is a Pennsylvania U.S. Congressional Key Contact for ACEP and Pennsylvania Chapter State Legislative Key Contact.  He also is involved in various organizations including: the Board of Directors of Emergency Medical Services of Northeast PA, the Ethics and Executive Committees at Moses Taylor Hospital and Associate Faculty of the Emergency Medical Services Program at Luzerne County Community College in Nanticoke, PA. 

 

Dr. O’Brien completed his medical degree at Georgetown University and his Emergency Medicine residency at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA.
